Charity of the Month - June

orchid cancer awareness

Orchid exists to save men’s lives from testicular, prostate and penile cancers through pioneering research and promoting awareness.

Testicular cancer is the most common cancer for men aged 15-45; each year around 2,000 young men are diagnosed with, and face the emotional and physical trauma of fighting, this disease.

Prostate cancer is now the biggest cancer threat to men in the UK with over 35,000 cases diagnosed each year; sadly the death toll from this disease equates to one man every hour.

Penile cancer is still quite rare but is the cancer that men fear most.

Incidence of the uniquely male cancers is growing yet still too little is known about them; their causes, treatments available and most importantly how to recognise them.

Orchid is calling on men – and women – to support our CHECKED OUT campaign

Checked Out

  • Check out male cancer – know the facts, who is at risk, be familiar with the signs

  • Check for signs – know when and how to examine for changes/early signs

  • Get checked out by a GP if worried – as with most cancers, male-specific cancers are easier to treat if diagnosed early.

To find information on prostate, penile and testicular cancer, or to learn more about Orchid’s work and how you can get involved visit www.orchid-cancer.org.uk

Please come along on Monday 23rd June in room 2 between 7pm and 9pm to help with the donation. You could also win one of Orchid's “checked out” pins that will be on offer throughout the day.
